The Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has announced each Wednesday "Yoruba Day" and guided all schools in the state to show all classes in Yoruba dialect on Wednesdays.

The mandate was given to both private and state funded schools. What's more, not only that, ordinary, the Nigerian national song of devotion is to be sung in Yoruba Language, and Yoruba Language has been made an obligatory subject.

Yoruba is currently a necessary prerequisite to get into any tertiary establishment in Lagos.

The Deputy Governor Idiat Adebule, passed these orders crosswise over to Public School principals and head educators in a gathering:

"Gov. Ambode needs me to pass this message to you, that consequently, Yoruba dialect be made necessary in both private and government funded schools. The national song of praise must be sung in Yoruba every day as well.

The Egbe Akomolede has done the interpretation and we will send the duplicates of the Yoruba adaptation to your schools by Monday so you can start to instruct the understudies.

I have additionally met with the proprietors of non-public schools and we have transferred this mandate to them. We are likewise considering interpreting the course books of different subjects into Yoruba Language since I trust that when understudies are instructed in their mom dialect, learning will be simple and their level of execution will move forward.

The state government is energetic about this Law, so we don't lose our dialect, culture and legacy."
